Hybrid Sedan from Lexus: pics emerge

Detroit auto show to be held next month and we can expect some more news (related to hybrid) from Toyota besides its redesigned Prius.

There are also news that Lexus, too, is developing its hybrid car that will utilize the engine and many other specifications of the Prius, but the style would be different.

Some websites have posted pictures of the Lexus hybrid prototype that was out for road testing.

According to the Internet report, this hybrid from Lexus will get the nameplate of 250h HS and it has the styling of the sedan finishing range with tailgate Pirus looks.

Honda’s FC Sport and FCX Clarity

With the launch of its 2009 FCX at LA auto show 07, Honda clarified its concept for hydrogen fuel vehicles. At present this production ready vehicle has been leased a selected customers’ group.

The company has tried to retrieve itself by introducing the Honda FC Sport, one year back and it was basically a new interpretation of the FCX Clarity as sports vehicle.

The FCX Clarity has been hyped as totally unique car, but still it is quite similar to different Honda sedans. It resembles other Honda Sedans, but obviously it’s not like other Honda’s vehicles.

GM previews its new fuel-saving techs for upcoming models

GM has previewed its new fuel-economy technologies for its 2009-10 models. Just like many other automakers, General Motors has opted for the cost effective direct-injected fuel engines to enhance mileage, reduce the outputs of emission and uphold ample power in the coming vehicle lineups.

A four-cylinder 2.4L and a V6 3.0L are two engines that reveal about GM’s direct injection surge. These two engines are expected to debut Detroit auto show during next month under 2010 Chevrolet Equinox hood.

Before looking into General Motors’ swelling lineup of Direct Engines, it is better to analyze this technology.

Fed to Provide $17.4b to GM, Chrysler

GM and Chrysler Motors will receive $17.4b from federal loans to avoid bankruptcy. However, the two companies will have to emerge with their reorganization plans and if they fail doing this, the will repay the amount instantly.

The loan is being provided under certain conditions that also include possible concessions from the firms, dealers and UAW.

The US Govt. has approved the Troubled Assets Relief Program and the will come from this program.

In the first phase, GM and Chrysler will get $13.4b, while another $4.00b will be provided if needed further.

Chrysler says that it will receive $4b in aid, while $9.4b would be available for General Motors, however, this portion has not been announced yet.

BMW 5 Series’ details leak out

The next 5 Series of BMW may take three to four years to appear, but its mechanical details have begun to emerge.

According to these details, the BMW 5 Series has been codenamed as F10 and it will be available with new kind of turbo engines.

The 540i will feature a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo, the 550i will have a V-8, 4-liter twin-turbo, while the M5 will also have a turbo V-8 instead of V-10.

You would find the hybrids with full dual-mode as well as with mild types.

Toyota saw first annual loss in 71 years

Because of declining sales and surging yen, the biggest Japanese automaker Toyota sees its first yearly loss in 71 years.

According to the company, it may suffer 150bn yen annual loss in its operating profits.

Just like many other countries of the world, the current financial year was depressive for Japan and it posted a $2.5bn trade deficit in November.

There were 26.7% down export levels because of the increasing yen, finance ministry of country says.

Toyota posted 2.27 trillion yen profit one year back. Toyota told that it was expecting to have significant net profit for the fiscal year ended in March, however, the company had to decrease its forecast to 50bn Japanese yen that were estimated 550bn previously.

6-speed auto transaxle from Hyundai

The development of a 6-speed auto transaxle has been completed by Hyundai and it is being considered quite effective to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emission. It is being claimed that it will improve fuel economy even more than 12.2%.

Small Cars are Safer Than Ever Before, Crash Tests Reveal

Due to fluctuating gas prices many small cars are getting more and more popular these days and that’s why they are being equipped with better safety strides for motorists, insurance industry tests suggest.

While testing for front-end crash, different 2009 small car models were given top scores by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Toyota Matrix, the Suzuki SX4 and the Pontiac Vibe were the three vehicles that got top scores in front and side protection.

The 2009 PT Cruiser from Chrysler was the only vehicle that got low scores in rear and side protection.
While in front-end testing, the HHR from Chevrolet and the Focus from Ford were the two vehicles that got the second-highest score in side protection.

Honda Cancels NSX Development

To reform its auto business in these days of recession, Honda has announced to cancel the development of its new NSX.

With its V10 powered engine, NSX was quite well-known as a direct challenger to Porsche and Ferrari, and it could be the most powerful supercar that Honda had ever produced.

Honda’s Chief Executive Takeo Fukui told about that move in his year end address. He said that all development of the NSX had been canceled and the company also withdrew from its plan of introducing its Acura brand in Japan during 2010.
