Automobile giant Nissan’s iconic car, Murano, is now available in Europe with a diesel engine bringing it up to the class of a car that every man desires for. A midsize crossover SUV, introduced in 2003, Murano has been a hit for years even without the diesel engine. That was the one thing that needed to be added to its expressive armoury to deliver its full potential.

This was the only obstacle that the Murano had where other manufacturers gained ground and cashed in, namely, Land Rover and Mitsubishi. With the introduction of the diesel engine, the Murano dCi model is expected to push upsales by 90% in the diesel segment alone. Priced at £37,795, the model hits showrooms on September 2010.

Whether the Murano owners choose the petrol or the diesel version of the car, they will enjoy every bit of the benefits that come with the drive. The new diesel version is powered re-engineered version of its former engine, the  Nissan’s 2.5-litre common-rail four-cylinder unit. Engineers from Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) have made extensive changes to the engine to ensure its performance is in accordance with customer expectations in this segment of the market. It is now fully compliant with tough Euro5 emissions standards, and develops more 11% power and torque than before at 200RPM.

Capitalising on the need to meet the requirements for cooling airflow to the diesel engine and radiators, a significant update has been made to the Murano’s frontal aspect to reinforce its striking looks. With a new grille and bumper design, the styling is now even more elegant and masculine. All of this comes with a full set of airbags, steel reinforced interiors for protection, technology that lets you choose between four wheel drive and two wheel drive.

The construction of the very 1st Renault-Nissan Alliance Battery Plant in Europe has some of the most important production rate of lithium-ion based batteries. They have begun at Sunderland, UK and their chief operation has been going on at Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.

There are supposed to be new groundbreaking works that have been proposed in the ceremony. The Nissan’s Sunderland car plant has been marking the beginning of this £210-million project. There will be new operations working from 2012 along with initial annual reports. The capacities have been growing through 60,000 units. The operation will work on supplying fresh batteries to Nissan as well as Renault electric vehicles.

There would be new plants that would be created along with 200 new jobs given by Nissan along with the further extension of their supply chain all across US. There are the previously announced new locations and one of them would be in Cacia, Portugal. These plans would make battery production at a wider scale. There would also be the one in France at the Renault’s Flins plant.

There would be 2nd battery production located through the Nissan LEAF vehicles along with the JUKE compact crossover features. These would enter the production in August 2010 along with the Nissan’s Oppama Plant in Japan. This is going to be another global production unit while the LEAF would be working with it. The first really affordable mass production zero-emission and battery operated vehicle would thus come across the world in a big way.

There has been mutual consultation on how zero emission cars can be brought to the mainstream and how increasing their usage would be able to solve several global problems. There have been several agreements made according to the choices of the council’s Low Carbon Living target. Although it is too early to be able to see concrete results, one could safely say that this is a big move for the two companies, and it makes sense to assume that unless they were convinced about its wisdom, they wouldn’t have gone ahead with it.

Among Nissan’s range of commercial vehicles, the changed Nissan Navara which is swankier than its predecessor, and the customer’s favorite Nissan Pathfinder Van are believed to draw in the crowds at the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show next month. All the other Nissan models including the very well known Cabstar model and the prize winning compact van Nissan NV200 will be on display. NV200 has been bestowed with a number of awards including those of What Van, Van of the Year, Van of the Year (International), and a number of other awards, this car will be the top draw at the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show next month.

Nissan has now announced that the Nissan LEAF will be manufactured at the Sunderland, UK plant. The production is expected to begin early in 2010, and the initial annual production capacity in Sunderland will be about 50,000 units. This is part of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd’s commitment to zero emission leadership.

The Nissan LEAF will be the first in a range of upcoming Nissan electrical vehicles, which are all set to be the first affordable and mass-produced zero-emission cars. The vehicles themselves are part of Nissan’s vision for an environmentally sustainable future for road transportation.

The construction of the company’s advanced lithium-ion battery plant, which was announced last year, will begin this April, Nissan said. The facility will be at Sunderland, and will have a production capacity of 60,000 units annually. The batteries will be manufacturer 2010 onwards for not just Nissan but also for the Alliance partner Renault.

The production of the Nissan LEAF and the batteries means a total investment of more than 420 million GBP – 468.2 million Euros, in the Sunderland plant. Around 2,2,50 jobs will be opened at Nissan, and across the UK supply chain. The investment and workforce are expected to bring in confidence.

The Renault-Nissan alliance has inaugurated a plant in Chennai, India – this is the first dedicated Alliance global plant, with a production capacity of up to 400,000 units.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance Chairman and CEO, Carlos Ghosn inaugurated this vehicle manufacturing plant in the presence of more than 1000 guests. The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of the representatives of state government, led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi – the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The plant shows an investment of 45 billion rupees (990 million dollars) and has the capacity to produce 400,00 units per year, at full ramp up. The initial employment capacity will be 1500 workers, when production starts in May 2010. According to estimates of the company, at least 6000 jobs will be opened up in the region.

Carlos Ghosn says that this plant in Chennai is a big milestone for the Renault-Nissan Alliance in India. With the new Micra, the Alliance will see the start of a product offensive in India that has the support of a localized manufacturing facility, which has the capability to make products not just for Renault but also for Nissan.

The first vehicle which will be produced will be the new Nissan Micra.

Rewarding loyalty and good service is always a wonderful way of maintaining relations and keeping up a good face in front of the world. This year, Nissan recognized such a service at the recently held Geneva Motor Show ceremony too. The top retailers behind the success of Nissan were awarded for their contribution at Geneva and were duly recognized by the company. There was a Retailer of the Year award and that was awarded to J S Holmes this year.

In all, there were ten awards which were handed out to some of the top retailers of Nissan this year in the cause of recognizing and achieving excellence. Juke, Micra and Leaf were the center of all attention in the motor show of Nissan. The managing director of Nissan, UK Paul Willcox gave out the award for the Overall Retailer of the Year to J S Holmes Ltd. The award was duly received by Steve Holmes.
