The Most Expensive Car Repairs

Most-Expensive-Car-Repairs

If you’re anything like most people in America today, your car is one of the most important things you have and it’s one of the things you depend on the most in your everyday life.  It’s important you speak with someone like Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. about any questions regarding your insurance before you find yourself with some of the most expensive repairs you could see with your car.

Whether your car has been on the road a little past its prime or you’ve recently been into an accident, you should have it looked at immediately because many problems start off small and will grow into something much larger with time.  Catching things before they get out of hand is key to keeping everything from blowing up later on.

The worst case scenario for any car is the case of a failing or deteriorated cylinder in your car, which typically happens when the mixture inside is off kilter, resulting in the cylinder getting way too hot and ultimately becoming damaged.
Although the cylinder isn’t necessarily the issue here, the labor is what will do you in.  It’s not a simple fix because in most cases, the entire engine needs to be taken apart to get to the cylinder in order to replace it.  You can expect something like this to run you more than eight thousand dollars when it’s all said and done.

Without your transmission, your car is little more than a decorate paperweight.  It’s an extremely important piece of your under hood assembly and yet most people don’t look for problems or warning signs, focusing on the other things first.  The fact is that a failing transmission will present its own list of red flags that should be heeded before you end up spending more than three thousand dollars to replace the assembly.

Most car manufacturers offer timelines detailing when people should have their transmissions looked at, so make sure you consult their website or your manual to make sure you don’t end up stranded later on. If you aren’t privy on changing your oil regularly, you should start doing so.  By neglecting regular oil changes, you’re risking the failure of your camshaft, which could end up being much more costly than a simple change of oil.  Very similar to the cylinder issue aforementioned, replacing a camshaft is quite expensive because of the work involved to change it out.  They typically cost more than three thousand dollars because of the labor.

Unlike some of the others, this next repair is expensive, but it isn’t because of the labor; it’s because of the part.  Most catalytic converters are created for the long term, meaning they should stay relatively workable for somewhere between ten and twenty years, but if your car is approaching this age or you’re the type of person who loves to rev your engine, you could see it going quite soon.

Although the labor is fairly easy and doesn’t take much time, buying a new converter is quite expensive simply because of all the different materials that they’re made of.  You could see more than two thousand dollars down just to pay for a replacement converter.

Cars can get pretty expensive if you’ve recently gotten into an accident or you haven’t gotten it looked at in quite a while, so make sure you take care of your vehicle and keep an eye out for any red flags.  The sooner you catch faults, the sooner you’ll be able to have them fixed and this will mean much lower costs.
